LinkedIn has become a key platform for media organisations, often outperforming Facebook in terms of targeted audience reach. But it is more than just a distribution tool – it’s a space where industry leaders share ideas, spark debate and push innovations.
If you’re in European media and active on Linkedin, following these professionals is a must. Many on the list were even nominated by our own contributors at The Fix.
- Thomas Baekdal is a Danish media analyst and founder of Baekdal Media. He began his career in digital media and has since gained two decades of experience across the industry, earning recognition as “one of Scandinavia's most sought-after experts in the digitisation of media companies,” according to the Swedish magazine Resume. For expert insights on media analysis, management, and trend forecasting, Baekdal’s work is essential reading.
- Patrick Boehler is the founder of Gazzetta, a Tallinn and New York-based firm supporting media and technology companies in advancing global internet freedom. He previously led Radio Free Europe's digital transformation, overseeing its product, audience and marketing departments. With Gazetta, Boehler focuses on audience research, news product development, newsroom transformation and building anti-autocratic resilience.
- Ezra Eeman is an AI expert and Director of Strategy & Innovation at NPO, the Dutch Public Broadcaster. With nearly 20 years of experience in international journalism, digital media and media innovation, he has worked with networks in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. - Marcela Kunova is the editor at Journalism.co.uk where she oversees coverage of industry news, job and training opportunities, media tools and a freelance directory. The outlet is also behind Neswired conferences where media leaders share insights on digital publishing and emerging trends. Kunova’s profile is a good place for checking what’s new in the industry, along with networking opportunities.
- Rasmus Kleis Nielsen is a professor at the University of Copenhagen and a senior research associate at Oxford’s Reuters Institute, where he served as director until 2024. Co-author of the Digital News Report since 2015, Nielsen explores how news and media shape society. His profile is a great resource for a more academic take on modern journalism.
- Simon Owens is a US-based journalist covering the media industry. His newsletter curates and analyzes trends in digital content creation and traditional media. Owens also hosts The Business of Content, a podcast about how publishers create, distribute, and monetise digital content. Besides his journalism work, Owens has done PR, content marketing, and social media strategy for dozens of organisations.
- Mattia Peretti is a learning experience designer in media, specialising in sustainable funding and new technology. His weekly newsletter, News Alchemists, dives into developments that “make you think and give you hope about redefining journalism and its role in society.” The 2024 ICFJ Knight Fellow, Peretti has previously managed the JournalismAI initiative at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
- Amélie Reichmuth is a journalist, media advocate, and educator based in Sweden (as well as The Fix’s contributor). Along other roles, she currently serves as a Nordics Representative for the Journalism Trust Initiative, one of Reporters Without Borders' flagship projects. Reichmuth’s work promotes media literacy and trust across northern Europe.
- Isabelle Roughol is a journalist, media executive, and podcaster based in the UK. As a media strategy and leadership consultant, she helps newsrooms develop sustainable business models and cultivate an inclusive, innovative work environment. With experience at major outlets like The Guardian, Le Figaro, and The New York Times, Roughol focuses on the evolving media landscape and newsroom culture in different countries.
- Madeleine White is the VP of marketing at Poool, a software company helping media organisations increase audience engagement and build subscriber bases on their websites and apps.
